A short history

Mexico was home to Olmec, Maya, Zapotec, Teotihuacan and Aztec civilisations. Spain conquered the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan in 1521 and ruled New Spain for three centuries. Mexico won independence in 1821 and later lost about half its territory to the United States. The 1910 revolution shaped the modern state, and Mexico today is a major economy.
