A short history

Kempe Gowda founded a fort town at Bengaluru in 1537 under the Vijayanagara empire. Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali ruled later, and the British set up a large cantonment in the 19th century. After independence it became a hub for science and aerospace, then for software from the 1990s. The city is nicknamed the Silicon Valley of India.
