A short history

The Romans founded Eboracum here in 71 AD. Vikings took it in the 9th century and named it Jorvik. In the Middle Ages it was one of England's most important cities, and in the 19th century it became a railway hub and chocolate centre. Its medieval centre has been carefully preserved.
