A short history

The valley is the shared traditional territory of the Squamish and Lil'wat Nations. Trappers and loggers settled here in the early 1900s, and fishing lodges followed. Skiing began on Whistler Mountain in 1966, and the purpose built pedestrian village opened in 1980. Whistler and Blackcomb merged into one resort in 1997. Whistler co-hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics with Vancouver.
