A short history

Greeks founded Neapolis, the new city, around the 6th century BC. It became a Roman resort area, and Vesuvius buried Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79 AD. Naples later served as capital of the Kingdom of Naples and the Two Sicilies. Its historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
