A short history

Hue became the capital of Vietnam under the Nguyen dynasty in 1802 and remained the seat of the emperors until 1945. The Imperial City was built in the early 1800s on the model of Chinese palaces. It was heavily damaged during the 1968 Tet Offensive, and restoration continues. UNESCO listed the Complex of Hue Monuments in 1993.
