A short history

Guangzhou, long known in the West as Canton, has been a port for over 2,000 years. It was the only Chinese port open to Western traders under the Canton System from 1757 to 1842. Sun Yat-sen launched revolutionary movements here. The biannual Canton Fair keeps it a global trade hub.
