A short history

Azorean settlers from Portugal arrived in the 18th century and left fishing traditions and lace making. The city was renamed in 1894 after President Floriano Peixoto. Tourism boomed from the 1980s, with visitors from Argentina and southern Brazil. Today it is also a tech hub.
