A short history

Denver was founded in 1858 during the Pike's Peak gold rush, on land that was home to the Cheyenne and Arapaho peoples. Railroads arrived in 1870 and made it the main supply hub of the Rocky Mountain region. It became the capital of Colorado in 1867, and its state capitol stands exactly one mile above sea level. Oil, tourism and tech have driven growth since.
