A short history

Romans built a fort here, and Normans later added a castle on the site. Cardiff boomed in the 19th century as a coal export port. It became Wales's capital in 1955, and the Senedd opened at Cardiff Bay in 1999. The docklands have since been transformed into a cultural hub.
